Novozymes' site in Kalundborg constitutes the world's largest and most high-tech enzyme plant. Approximately 600 employees work on manufacturing enzymes that are used throughout the world for a wealth of different purposes.
Novo Nordisk also has production facilities in Kalundborg. However, although Novozymes and Novo Nordisk are both part of the Novo Group, they are two independent companies.
Novozymes is an active participant in Kalundborg's Industrial Symbiosis (www.symbiosis.dk). This is a unique network cooperation between five processing companies and Kalundborg Municipality in which the companies exploit each other's residual products or by-products.
There are a range of facilities connected with the production plant such as workshops, analysis and research laboratories, canteens and much more.
The first part of the production site in Kalundborg was established in 1969, but it has continually been expanded and improved. At the end of 2002 we opened a large new section for treating industrial wastewater.
Novozymes in Kalundborg has also received an award as the area's most outward-looking company. We participate in our local community and, among other things, are the main sponsor of the local football team.
