The Novozymes' staff of scientists at the Salem, VA, research and manufacturing facility is continuously developing new strains, products, processes and applications. Novozymes expands its capabilities with numerous university collaborations including Virginia Tech, Rutgers and the University of Wisconsin.
The research department has PhD-level expertise in microbial physiology, microbial biochemistry, organic chemistry, molecular biology, plant physiology and pathology, microbial genetics, and biochemical engineering. We use an arsenal of specialized techiniques including rapid screening, PCR technology, DNA fingerprinting, and system modeling. Application technology development is coordinated with Novozymes' technical service and engineering teams.
With over 20,000 square feet of laboratory Novozymes utilizes a wide range of equipment including GC mass spectrometer, ultra low freezers, HPLC, electrophoresis equipment, centrifuges, microscopes with digital camera capabilities, scanners, incubators, a bank of respirometers, chemical and microbiological hoods, clean rooms, autoclaves, temperature-controlled shakers, enzyme plate reader, and colorimeters.
Novozymes has set industry standards for bioaugmentation technology and maintains a leadership position in new product development.
