Novozymes started the activities in Brazil in 1975, as a technical services and sales representative office in Spo Paulo (SP). The main activity was to sell enzymes and support technically the enzyme application during the production process. The number of employees was 5 to 10 up to 1986. At that time the name was Novo Industri do Brasil Representat)es e Servitos Ltda.
In 1988 the office was moved from Spo Paulo to Curitiba.
In 1989, with the inauguration of the factory in Araucaria, State of Paraná - Novo Industri do Brasil Ind. e Com. Ltda. started the production of enzymes.
From 1989 on, Novo Nordisk produces and sells enzymes for Latin America. The investments in Brazil already amount above US$ 35 million. The activities are the same and the number of employees is now around 180.
The goals for coming years are to grow around 20% per annum, and the intention is to continue investing in Latin America based on the market needs.
