Novozymes Latin America, NZLA - production premises employs approx. 90 people with a variety of skills and background.
We have currently been producing enzymes mainly for the detergent industry, for breweries as well as for the starch and textile industries. The technological base for enzyme production is microbial fed-batch fermentation carried out in contained tanks. The microorganisms are inoculated in a nutrient-rich substrate and "fed" with some more other nutrients. Meanwhile they grow in population, they are producing the desired enzyme molecules which are then purified and later on processed to final liquid or solid products.
The biomass mainly microorganisms separated from the fermentation - is submitted to a special treatment do deactivate the microorganisms. The treated biomass, which has a high grade of macro and micronutrients, is used as a soil enhancer and is freely distributed to the farmers in the surrounding area.
