Example of a science project description: Study of enzyme motion on a substrate - Manipulating enzymes with optical tweezers.
'In collaboration with Novozymes, we are investigatin wheather our optical tweezers setup can be used to study the motion of an enzyme on its substrate. The enzyme we work on at the moment is a lipase, attacking a substrate of a monoacylglycerol in a carrier of phospholipids.
The enzymes are attached to polystyrene beads through a biotin-streptavidin binding. The susbtrate is prepared as vesicles and subsequently put in a perfusion chamber and allowed to cover the bottom part of this perfusion chamber.
With the optical tweezers, we then intend to grab and visualize the bead, and hopefully resolve the enzyme-motion on the substrate'.
