Novozymes in Kalundborg
Novozymes in Kalundborg comprises Fermentation, Recovery and Granulation plants, which together with the Kalundborg factory’s water purifying plant and plant for production of the biomass NovoGro, constitute the largest production site within Novozymes.
The site also houses a development laboratory for fermentation processes and a number of support functions, for example warehouses, purchase function and laboratories.
We are approximately 600 employees who have all set high goals for our efforts, and we work intensely to reach our goals. This is one of the reasons why we have experienced an impressive development and have reached significant results the last few years.
Novozymes in Kalundborg is part of an industrial symbiosis in the area, which has been established as a network cooperation between 6 process industry companies and the local authorities in Kalundborg. The idea of the symbiosis is that the 6 companies, which besides Novozymes and Novo Nordisk members GYPROC, the biggest plasterboard factory in Scandinavia, STATOIL, the biggest refinery in Denmark, SK Energi/Asnæsværket, the biggest power station in Denmark and A/S Bioteknisk Jordrens, utilizes each other’s by-products. One company’s bi-products may become an important resource in the other company, and the result is a lower resource consumption and less environmental strain. This symbiosis project is one of a kind in the world today.
The production equipment in Kalundborg is world-class - we have all that you can imagine within the newest and most advanced equipment, machinery and plants. The production plant in Kalundborg has been constantly growing since it’s start in 1969, and all the time new investments are made in new building projects and new production plants. This, together with the general fast development within the business fields of the company, demands concurrent training of all employees.
The Novo group factories in Kalundborg constitute the biggest, most flexible and technologically leading production plant, employing approximately 1800 persons with quite different education and background, Chemists, engineers, pharmacists, mechanical engineers, laboratory technicians, smiths, administrative staff, economists, logisticians, process operators etc.
The factories in the Kalundborg group are very wide-ranging, as the house both production of enzymes for industrial use - Novozymes, production of Insulin and finished goods production - Novo Nordisk. Novo Nordisk IT and Novo Nordisk Servicepartner also have employees in Kalundborg. Finally a local project planning department - Novo Nordisk Engineering, and a laboratory for fermentation processes are located here. All together a very dynamic working place with a challenging environment and a high level of activiry.
