Getting the idea



Every year Novozymes normally launches five to eight new enzyme products that can do amazing things for its customers. They all start with a good idea.

The greatest motivator for developing a new enzyme product is often the customer. Through constant dialogue with customers, our technicians and scientists identify the real needs in a particular industry.

Normally the customer has a problem: for example, a greasy stain on a shirt that no detergent can shift.

This is a job for Novozymes' scientists.

The first step is to identify the various components of the greasy stain. We need to know exactly what it is that needs removing.

The next step is to track down the type of enzyme that can do the job. Novozymes has a microorganism library of more than 25,000 enzyme-producing fungi and bacteria.

Here the scientists start looking for an enzyme that can break down the chemical components of the greasy stain.
