Modified starches are used to prepare starch pastes for coating and surface-sizing paper. Surface sizing improves the printing surface of the paper and makes it more resistant to abrasion.
With amylases, the mill can modify starch in-house, which is economically attractive compared to buying modified starch from a third party.

Replace aggressive oxidizing agents
Traditional methods of modifying starch use aggressive oxidizing agents. However, alpha-amylases such as Aquazym®, BAN® and Fungamyl® are used today as a better alternative for reducing starch viscosity.
