During weaving, threads are subjected to mechanical stress. To alleviate this problem, the threads are covered with a polymeric substance - the size.
Starch is one of the most common sizing agents and has been used for many years. If the
size is not completely removed after weaving, uneven dyeing, poor batch-to-batch reproducibility and unacceptable printing can be the result. The solution is to apply an
enzyme that can completely remove the size.
Using enzymes
it is important to ensure that the highest possible degree of desizing is achieved consistently from batch to batch. The use of enzymes ensures complete removal of starch-based sizes and also eliminates the need to use aggressive chemicals. This prevents degradation of the substrate and subsequent loss of strength in the fabric.
