Gene technology – and so industrial biotechnology – is an important element in the development of more sustainable industrial production.
In Novozymes we use
genetic engineering in developing and producing most of our products. Because
gene technology is an issue that is of great concern to some of our stakeholders, we recognise the importance of being transparent and continuously in dialogue. Compliance with legislation and regulations are only the first steps.
If we want to retain our ‘license to operate’, we have to be open to our stakeholders – society, politicians, authorities, NGOs, customers and investors - about the way we use technology and develop our products. We intend to build trust.
Novozymes'
environment and bioethics policy and associated standards directly address the implications of genetic engineering. The purpose is to identify the bioethical and gene technological issues that might be connected to our activities, assess the possible implication of these and take appropriate action.
Gene technology is essential for realizing the full potential of enzymes and thereby creating value for Novozymes, for our customers, and for society at large. In other words the technology enables us to improve our existing products and also to create new biological solutions for new markets.
