BIO-PHARMA: First blockbuster drug approved using Novozymes’ synthetic serum

This may seem like a fanciful headline but with Novozymes’ new recombinant product range for biopharmaceutical manufacture, perhaps it is not that far away.

With LONG® R3IGF-I and the other products from the new animal-free biopharmaceutical ingredients range developed exclusively for industrial cell culture, we at Novozymes have shown that bioinnovation is in our blood and that developing science based answers for tomorrows’ bioproduction questions is our goal. Though, don’t just take our word for it. In today’s competitive biopharmaceutical marketplace our biotech and pharma partners clearly value a product range developed specifically for their needs, that is scientifically proven and capable of delivering performance benefits in a consistent and compliant way.

Both LONG® R3IGF-I our recombinant insulin alternative and Recombumin®, recombinant human albumin are already proven in several approved biopharmaceutical products. Furthermore, Novozymes’ science based approach offers the opportunity for some fresh thinking. Our cell culture range brings together recombinant alternatives to three key, media components – insulin, transferrin and albumin - enabling bio-manufacturers to rethink their supplementation regimes and achieve the performance of protein rich media in a compliant and consistent way. .

Bioinnovation of tomorrow

In accessing over 60 years of expertise in industrial recombinant protein production and a global R&D team dedicated to developing recombinant tools for industrial bioprocesses our partners become able to:

- Harness our albufuse™ technology, the natural alternative to pegylation for half-life extension

- License our animal free expression platforms to produce recombinant proteins to tonne scale

- Benefit from Recombumin® the world’s first recombinant excipient for animal free protein drug formulation.

Recognizing technology that will bring real commercial value to your bioprocesses can often mean the difference between first to market or not. Novozymes is committed to developing the bioinnovation of tomorrow to advance the biopharmaceutical pipelines of today. And if we generate a few blockbuster headlines along the way then that would be good too.
