Prevention of the settling of dirt particles (clay, soot, rust, etc.) on fabrics in a laundering process once they have been suspended in the washing liquor. Special detergent ingredients provide this effect, including synthetic polymers such as carboxymethyl cellulose and acrylic polymers, as well as certain cellulases.
