An enzyme that degrades cellulose - the basic structural building block in plants and the main constituent of cotton. Endocellulases attack cellulose chains at positions away from the ends, whereas exocellulases degrade the chains from one end. Areas for cellulase applications include laundry detergents and the textile industry.
