Insulin
Go back
A hormone that controls the metabolism of glucose. Lack of insulin results in diabetes, while excess insulin leads to coma. Insulin is a polypeptide produced by the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas. Its secretion is stimulated by high blood levels of glucose and amino acids after a meal.
