School girls are motivated to reach their full potential

Gender equality is still a vast concern in South Africa. Novozymes South Africa organized an education day for school girls called “Take a girl child to work.” The objective was to inspire and motive schoolgirls to reach their full potential and pursue an education. The initiative is a joint project between the Department of Education, businesses, and the general public in South Africa. Under this initiative, Novozymes partnered with a local boarding school for girls called the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy. Five students, accompanied by a teacher from the school, spent a day at Novozymes South Africa in August 2010. The entire site was involved in educating them about science and enzyme technology, and providing insights into modern business by sharing with them "what a day at work is like." The girls also participated in a practical bakery exercise. “The learning was definitely both ways, and the passion and spark from these girls was inspiring,” says Kim Webster, Managing Director, Novozymes South Africa.
