Patent Attorney or Agent, Intellectual Property department – Franklinton, NC
Novozymes, a biotech-based world leader in enzymes and microorganisms is seeking a registered patent attorney or agent for our Franklinton, North Carolina Intellectual Property department.

The candidate will be responsible for conducting various aspects of Novozymes’ intellectual property activities, primarily in the area of patent preparation and prosecution, state of the art analyses, and legal opinions. The Patent Attorney or Agent will foster a strong collaborative working relationship with scientists at Novozymes as well as colleagues around the globe. Further, the Patent Attorney or Agent will be able to interact with and provide counsel to internal stakeholders regarding intellectual property matters.

In this position, you need to have:
The ideal candidate will have a degree in the biological sciences, more preferably an advanced degree. Technical background in biochemistry, molecular biology and protein chemistry is desired. The successful candidate must be registered to practice before the USPTO and have a minimum of 3-5 years’ patent drafting and prosecution experience and portfolio management.

Qualifications include:
  • Significant experience in US and foreign patent prosecution
  • Skilled in biological sciences, preferably molecular biology, metabolic engineering, biochemistry, and/or enzyme and substrate chemistry
  • Experience working with and directing prosecution by foreign patent counsel
  • Proficiency in drafting opinions
  • Post grant procedures experience preferred
  • Ability to effectively manage a patent docket
  • Team player with good communication and feedback skills
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and caselaw regarding intellectual property and patents.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels within the organization.
  • Comfortable working in a multinational, multicultural professional environment
  • Patent attorney candidates must be admitted to practice before at least one state bar
  • Ability to travel approximately 5-10%
