Regulatory/Product Safety Specialist-Microorganisms
Novozymes seeks an experienced microbiologist to join our North American Headquarters team in NC to support both regulatory and product safety activities associated with microorganisms in the bio agriculture industry as well as in other technical industries. As a Microbial Regulatory Specialist, you will prepare applications for permits, licenses, certificates and authorizations needed for registration and shipping of our products. You will research, review and monitor current and proposed US and Canadian laws and regulations pertaining to microbial products used in bio-agricultural and other technical industries. You will feed insights gained back into the regulatory team as well as into new product development teams you will be a core member of to ensure regulatory compliance and speed to market. You will be expected to contribute to maturing corporate policies for regulatory and safety assessments of microorganisms.

As a Microbial Product Safety Specialist, your primary task will be working with risk assessments of new microbial products. Together with global colleagues including those based in our Product Safety Department headquartered in Denmark, your task will be to assess potential hazards and exposure risks of innovative microbial products to ensure safety in handling and use during application and commercial use. You will be planning, securing performance of and reporting data-driven assessments. Our conclusions have a strong foundation in the combination of theoretical assessments and analytical data generated in our laboratories.

For this position, you will need to have:
  • MS/PhD in the Life Sciences (Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry) required with 3-5 years relevant work experience including knowledge of general principles of clinical microbiology, protein and immune chemistry and/or allergy prevention and product safety
  • Experience in regulatory working with microorganisms used for bio-agricultural and industrial applications and/or Novozymes product range is preferred
  • Candidates who have an existing network within Regulatory Authorities such as US EPA, USDA-APHIS, Environment and Climate Change Canada or Trade Associations and other industry groups will have preference
  • Experience in working with Occupational Health & Safety systems is desirable
  • Experience in developing risk assessments and related protocols
  • Proven aptitude with a variety of computer disciplines: strong word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and interest in working and interacting with diverse culture
  • Ability to deal with confidential information
  • Strong project management, organizational, written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects while also on teams
  • Ability to travel within NA as well as international travel (15%) with periodic trips to Copenhagen Denmark required
