Green electricity to Novozymes

By 2012, all the electricity needs of Novozymes Denmark will be supplied by wind energy, thereby making electricity consumption in the Danish operations CO2 neutral.

The first of 91 wind turbines in the wind farm Horns Rev 2 have started to run. Novozymes has made an agreement with DONG Energy to purchase 30% of the CO2-neutral electricity from the wind farm.

As part of the partnership, Novozymes and DONG consultants have identified energy savings in Novozymes' production. The money saved will be invested in energy from the new offshore wind farm. The agreement is the largest of its kind so far in Denmark when measured in realized CO2 reduction.

Part of Novozymes' global CO2 strategy

The partnership with DONG Energy is part of Novozymes' global CO2 strategy. The overall target is to decouple business growth from emissions of CO2 related to Novozymes’ production and globally reduce CO2 emissions to the 2007 level by the end of 2012 while growing our business.

“The same way as we're ambitious in developing products that enable our customers to reduce significant amount of CO2, it's natural that we’re ambitious in reducing CO2 from our own activities,” says Flemming Funch, Vice President. ”With the wind turbines now running, we're well on our way.”
