Pitch and stickies control

Improve process economy and paper quality with enzymatic pitch control.

Pitch control

Novozymes’ enzymes prevent deposition of pitch on equipment and appearance in the final product. The result is paper of higher quality with fewer defects, reduced pitch spots or holes, and improved strength and coefficient of friction.

But enzymes can do even more than that for pitch control. The efficient enzymes significantly improve process economy and flexibility by reducing downtime and decreasing the cleaning frequency for felts and rolls. And that means a higher production output.

The enzymatic treatment also allows a larger amount of unseasoned wood to be used, thereby increasing paper brightness and easing wood inventory management pressures.

Stickies control

Enzymes for stickies control prevent spots, holes, and breakage of recycled paper – as well as improving machine runnability.

Recycled fiber is a major source of raw material for the modern recycled paper mill. Stickies are a major obstacle to manufacturing high-quality paper. They challenge the process of using recycled or secondary fiber sources. And they tend to deposit on machine surfaces, fabrics, wires, felts, and rolls, which leads to runnability problems such as paper breaks at the press. If not controlled, stickies can also lead to paper quality issues such as holes, sheet defects, and high dirt counts.

Enzymes are the sustainable alternative to chemicals. They efficiently convert the stickies into more manageable components, thereby improving machine performance. More importantly, enzymes have the ability to improve the recycled paper’s quality in terms of spots, holes, and breakage as well as preventing damage from stickies.
