In 2010, Novozymes contributed to the development of a “navigation tool for sustainable development” in collaboration with a number of Danish stakeholders; the Danish think tank MandagMorgen, Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster, Merkur Bank, Codan, Dansk Erhverv and Crowne Plaza. The purpose of the tool is to encourage companies to develop sustainability in a strategic business context through a focused and systematic approach and performance. Accordingly, the tool is intended to provide an overview of generic focus areas for strategic management as illustrated below.
At Novozymes, we recognize all the aspects of the tool from our on-going work with sustainability integration as reflected in our sustainability development strategy and stakeholder dialog as well as in our sustainable solutions and focus areas.
In the publication about the navigation tool, there is also a selection of cases. The case of Novozymes focuses on our experience with integrating sustainability development into the business strategy. A number of our important learning’s are mentioned such as creating value for customers through the use of life cycle assessments to document environmental impacts of solutions, and creating performance incentives through bonus schemes depending on the achievement of the sustainability targets.
