Pollution solution

Ajay Sanghvi from our Textiles team explains that producers in Tirupur, India, were forced to reduce production for not meeting pollution limits. They asked us for a new generation of enzymatic scouring, and other alternatives to chemicals.

In 2016, we returned with a new enzymatic scouring solution. Quickly adopted, this new solution allowed these mills to not only produce more, but in a cleaner way.

Biopolishing

Polish up your cotton knits

Cellulase enzymes can significantly enhance the quality of pure and blended cotton knits. Cellulases remove protruding fibers and dead cotton from fabrics and garments. This leaves them smoother, and keeps their colors clearer for longer.

A 2016 survey of German and French shoppers explored the impact of biopolishing on their purchasing decisions. The results were clear: Consumers will pay more to get the benefits of biopolishing.

Partnerships for sustainability

In quality enhancement, Novozymes Cellusoft® gives cotton knits a pill- and fuzz-free surface and clear bright colors by removing protruding cotton fibers and dead cotton.

In pre-treatment, Novozymes Termamyl® improves dyeing and fabric strength as well as cutting chemical and water consumption by removing starch-based sizes prior to dyeing.

In pre-treatment, Novozymes BioPrep® Fusion gives knits a superior hand-feel and softness, reducing or eliminating the need for softeners and saving on water, because fewer rinses are needed.

  • Reduces weight loss to 1-2% due to elimination of cotton damage
  • Reduces the COD, BOD and salt (acid and alkali) load to the wastewater treatment plant
  • Can be combined with biopolishing and desizing

In pre-treatment, Novozymes Terminox® removes hydrogen peroxide faster and more cost-effectively by efficiently breaking down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.

  • Saves up to three water baths and up to 30 minutes*
  • Prepares for consistent dyeing results  
  • Can take place separately or together with biopolishing  in the dye bath.

In denim finishing, Novozymes Denimax® cuts water, energy and heat costs, gives a great stone-washed look and creates a range of different casts for new looks.

  • Cuts water and heat consumption by up to 50% and electricity consumption by up to 15%*

In denim finishing, enzymatic bleaching protects fabric with gentler processing conditions and creates a very different finish for entirely new fashion looks. Denim treated with Novozymes Denilite® also retains its stretch fibers.
