The world we share

Why improve crop yield?

In the not-so-far future, we will need to be able to produce twice as much food as we do now. Microbial solutions work to improve crop yield, which helps create more food for this increasingly hungry world.

What is a microbial inoculant?

Inoculants are microbes like bacteria or fungi that provide a beneficial effect when added to soil or plants. Inoculants can enhance availability and uptake of nutrients by fixing nitrogen from the air or by breaking down inorganic soil phosphates, so these nutrients become available to plants.

The phosphate phenomenon

Keeping phosphate where it should be

Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient for the healthy growth of young plants. Greater phosphate availability can lead to expanded root volume, which in turn enhances nitrogen and potassium uptake. This can ultimately enable optimal plant growth and increase crop yield potential.

The power of partnerships for bioyield enhancement

Novozymes’ bioyield enhancement portfolio is developed in partnership with the BioAg Alliance. The BioAg Alliance is a long-term partnership between Novozymes and Monsanto that strives to increase the productivity of the world’s crops. The alliance is also dedicated to fundamentally enhancing research and the development of microbial-based technology.

BioAg Alliance products are currently used on more than 80 million acres of farmland. The Alliance envisions that BioAg products will be used on 250-500 million acres globally by 2025.
