Novozymes has for a long time been known as an environmentally friendly company.

Now everyone can see how Novozymes’ enzymes save the environment from large CO2 emissions, as the so-called Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) are made public on

What is LCA?

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the assessment of the environmental impact of a given product or service throughout its lifespan. This means that you calculate the environmental impact from raw material extraction, through production and use, to final disposal or recycling.

For example, you could measure the CO2 emissions from all the steps in the production of one of Novozymes’ enzymes for the leather industry and balance that with the reductions in CO2 emissions from a leather factory using Novozymes’ enzyme products. In that way you get an overview of the enzyme product’s entire environmental impact.

Now on

In the future, Novozymes will publish LCAs on as soon as they are finished and validated.

“All of the documents we’re publishing on our external website have been reviewed externally, so they aren’t just empty claims,” says Per Henning Nielsen from Environmental Assessment.

Currently, five LCAs are available on
