Animal health

Probiotics are naturally occurring microbes that can reduce antibiotic usage in livestock and bring associated health benefits.

Rising global consumption of meat combined with legislative and consumer-driven demands to reduce the use of antibiotics as growth promoters have created a need for sustainable solutions in animal farming. At Novozymes, we apply our long track record in developing and producing bacterial strains to develop feed additives for probiotic applications in animals.

Probiotics, or direct fed microbials, are naturally occurring live microbes added to feed to improve the gut flora of pigs, poultry and other animals. They improve animal health, growth and feed utilization, thereby providing a natural alternative to antibiotic growth promoters. For more information, please contact us.

Boehringer Ingelheim and Novozymes collaborate on probiotics for poultry hatcheries

The two companies will develop and commercialize probiotics for global poultry production. Their focus is on developing products for hatcheries, the facilities where eggs are hatched before the chickens move to grow-out farms. Read more about the partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim.

As part of the agreement, Boehringer Ingelheim will initially market and distribute Novozymes’ FloraMax® probiotic product for the U.S. poultry industry. FloraMax is a unique, water administered probiotic intended for use in poultry. The product is particularly useful for producers who want to reduce the incidence and transmission of Salmonella sp. in their flocks.
